# 5
This was not really a chase, just a
trip to check for flooding near Ames and possibly get a picture or two of some
cloud to ground lightning.
We left Boone and traveled east on
county road E26, then south on IA highway 17, and east again on US highway
30. We entered Ames on Lincoln Way, and
found that the area of Lincoln Way and county road R38 was flooded. While water wasn’t over the road, there was
water standing in the mobile home court and reasturaunt located there. There was also water in the equipment
dealership lot and a nearby apartment building parking lot. It was hard to determine if there was any
damage done to vehicles and homes, but it is likely there was some damage.
As we checked out other low lying
areas of Ames we discovered that Airport Road on the South side of the city was
closed due to water over the road.
Due to light rain during this trip, we
decided to abandon trying to get any pictures of lightning strikes.
